Trust temp on mobo or program?

Just got a new setup and the mobo EVGA X58 has an LED showing the temp of the cpu, but when i install core temp for example, it shows me a +10c or more higher reading.

eg. mobo shows 33c but program says 42c

Its an i7 920 cpu and a corsair H50 heatsink and its overclocked to 3.7ghz stock voltage on everything.
 
The LED is showing the socket temp(there's a small sensor underneath the socket itself), not the actual temperature of the CPU. You should always go with the core reading from a program like CoreTemp.
 
so is 42c a good idle temp for an oc'd i7 920 @ 3.7ghz stock volt? and it goes to 58c full load?
 
Good is relative. Is it bad, no in that when describing bad, we can talk about it slowing down to cool itself off. Looks good to me.
