Can I take a 3-disk encrypted raid5 array and expand it to a 4-disk encrypted raid5 array without losing any data on the existing array?

I want to make a 3-disk raid5 array, encrypt it, put data on it, and then add the fourth drive to it and maintain encryption. Is this possible?

I don't think so. The crypto stuff doesn't take kindly to random garbage on the end of the partition, IIRC.

Why do you want to encrypt everything? If the keys are kept on the machine, the data might as well be unencrypted, and if they're removable you could lose the key and lose your data forever.

password encryption.

There's quite a bit of sensitive data that I would like to protect.
