So I'm in the process of building my new system (in sig), However I've just come to the realization that the TRUE is just about 1" too tall to fit into my old Coolermaster Praetorian case!

I've got a really nice 120mm fan for it too!!

What should I do?
Take a dremel and cut off the top few fins and pipes?
Buy a new HSF? (Are there any comparible 120mm HSF's that could fit in my case?)
I've got four tall sticks of ram too, so they'll need their clearance as well.

Crap.

Uh well I wouldn't recommend mutilating the heatsink, you'll kill its performance. Plus cutting open heatpipes isn't really the best idea ;) They aren't empty you know.

You could always upgrade your case, or switch to a heatsink like the Ultima 90 which is nearly as good, and significantly shorter.

Well... if you cut the heat pipes, the cooler will no longer function.

As for making it fit.... why not cut a hole in your case?

A modded and lapped Thermaltake Big Typhoon with a better fan (higher static pressure) will probably perform just as good or real close to that of a TRUE.

Cut a hole in your side panel and install a domed window around the cooler. I think that would look quite awesome.

So i've busted out the calipers an it says I've got around 140mm worth of clearance between the CPU and the side panel.

Whats the best cooler thats under 140mm?

(I'm still considering cutting the side panel)

I think a cut sidepanel with it sticking out the side would look sick.

Agreed, if you do it correctly. You might be able to get a look similar to a muscle car with a carb or blower poking up out of the hood. Or it might just look fugly.

Yeah, I cant decide if it'd look cool or ugly as hell.
Plus I'm very sensitive to noise and I dont want any coming out of that hole.

I'm eyeing the ZALMAN CNPS9700 as it's 142mm high.

How about getting the Thermalright Ultima 90? I can't fit the True in my case as well (CM Cosmos S), so I'm going with the nextbest Thermalright solution. It's 139mm. Look up some reviews, it seems to be quite nice.

the arctic freezer cools jsut as good as my tru 120 on this q9450 kinda dissapointed actually. for what it is worth. mind you q9450 is 45nm and puts out less heat to begin with. q6600 might be too much for it when it ramps on load I don't know. all I do know is that the AF7 at 3.6 ghz on my q9450 only load 10 degrees higher that idle. kinda wish I just kept it on there and not gotten the tru but oh well.

+1 to the zerotherm nirvana. otherwise I say the thermalright ultima 90 is good.

I say you cut a hole in the case and put a round umm side panel window on it lol

It'll look like that robot from start wars (forgot name) when he's mounted on to the ship.

not to threadjack, but now i'm worried... will the tuniq tower fit in a centurion 590?

Get a new case, problem solved.
Wanna send me the money for that? :p

About the Ultima-90... does it use the same mounting backplace as the TRUE 120?
I dont want to have to disassemble the entire system just to switch HSFs.

No Air cooler outperforms the TRUE. Where True really shines is when you start getting to high overclocks, then it outtperforms EVERYTHING else save watercooling.

I think the 590 and the 690 are the same width so i think it should fit cuz someone has a tuniq on their 690 on the cooler master gallery.

trade me your tuniq with my zalman 9500 :D

I am asking this since i have a CM 590 similiar to a CM690 and with a fan the TRUE does not fit. I am hoping the Xigmatek will.

If someone knows please confirm. Thanks!
