'True 3D' Display Using Laser Plasma Technology

FINALLY! I've been waiting for this, a real hologram. Imagine how this might evolve in 10 years time. I think we are on the brink of finally having real holograms.

Why does all the knew technology look like old technology from a 70s sci-fi movie?

But yeah, one step closer to banging every hot chick you wanted in the holodeck :D

They said... it's the first to not have a screen? What about the Microsoft interactive 3D from before? Or was that different or newer? I can't really remember.

High-powered lasers heating air into plasma - cool, yes, but a consumer version of the tech seems unlikely.

I know that sfsuphysics touched on 70s sci-fi this but am I really the first person to see this and think "Help me Obi Wan, you're my only hope"?

"High-powered lasers heating air into plasma" is known to cause cancer is laboratory animals in California.

I always laugh a little bit when I see "...in California." as if reality is somehow warped the second you cross state lines. (Although I am not saying that what they are saying is true or not)

Looks primitive and silly now, but remember how crappy TV used to be. Or computer monitors, for that matter (green text, anyone?) I can't wait to see where this ends up in 10 years!

Ok. I see a great game of Tempest out of this, but not much more...

I'm also seeing "You're all going to die down here" by a small red british girl.

The microsoft thing uses screens. Basically it projects an image using some neat tricks onto a screen, your hands are behind the display and the sensors see where your hands are. The display takes that position information and creates the illusion that you can touch the object.

Ah, thanks for clarifying. It's been a while and I forget. I only remember it looking like they're touching the ball.

if "hello world" is the intro for programming, then "help me obi-wan ...." should be the standard for all hologram testing by law, granted you read the TOS.

A portable computer with a high speed wireless connection to a world wide network was never imagined as being for consumers either not too long ago.

And breaking into an old CRT and huffing the phosphors isnt healthy either.

Why do these moronic environmentalist types always assume that any new product coming out has to be completely safe to snort, eat, or stick your dick into?

Let nature take its course people. George Carlin said it best: "The kid that eats too many marbles doesnt get to grow up to have any kids of his own."

^The force is strong in this one

Winner!

:D

I want one! Would put this Tec together with voice recognition software; personalized (evil) msg’s for all who visit :p

Since nobody else was gonna do it...

So a 0.5-1w greenie, put through a bog standard 50kpps scanner, hooked up to a beam brush, running through water?

This stuff has been around for a while, we've got a long way to go >_<

Except it's not water. It's air.
