Been years since I did anything in these forums, nice to be back...
Anyway, I've been running into some issues the last few weeks and I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction. About a month ago my computer started randomly stopping any transmission to my monitor for about 5 seconds. What will happen is the screen will just go black (still lit, power on the monitor showing on), and then come back on. It's not freezing, as far as I can tell, because things are still loading/progressing, it's just like a flicker. It's happened on multiple monitors and with 2 DVI cables.
I had been planning on getting a new case and a new PSU for a while anyway, so I picked them up last Friday and got everything switched over. Got it turned back on, was messing around, and got the flicker again. Then everything froze, and I proceeded to bash my head into a wall with issues of not posting, memory seating issues, and general tom foolery.
There's a local store that isn't high end but does decent work, and I was at a point where my desire was to throw things from my roof, so i dropped it off. Initially they thought it was a hard drive issue, but after some troubleshooting and component swapping (that I couldn't do), it got isolated down to a faulty video card. I had my old one laying around, so i took it in, it got tested, and seemed to be working.
I got home tonight, got everything set back up like I like, turned it on...and bam, hit with this random turning off again. I don't know if it could just be I *happen* to have a bad monitor, or what, but I'm hoping some can throw some ideas at me to try out. Specs are below.
In recap, had a video card go bad after having random issues of the screen just turning off, swapped to an old card, screen just randomly goes off still (while monitor still has power and computer is NOT frozen).
Intel Core i7-4770K Haswell Quad-Core 3.5 GHz LGA 1150
ASUS SABERTOOTH Z97 MARK1 LGA 1150 Intel Z97
4 x CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
Sapphire HD 5850
2 x 250 GB hard drives
1 x 1 TB hard drive
1 Asus PCI WLAN adapter
Thermaltake 750W Gold PSU
Corsair Hydro CPU cooler (the one that comes with 1 140mm fan)
