I have an ABIT BH6 with a Celeron 566 o/c'd to 875 (I know, ancient technology) which has begun to exhibit strange behavior. I thought it was due to Win98SE at first. I know there is something flakey w/ the HW. After the machine runs for a while (heats up?), I cannot shut the power off and restart. IDE1 won't find any hard drives attached in the BIOS. After cooling for about 20 minutes the machine will boot. It is having more frequent problems including random warm reboots, a screen that goes light grey which sometimes must be rebooted and sometimes comes back but leaves the Microsoft Office sidebar icons as grey boxes, system lockups (which lead me to believe it was Win98). Could this all be coming from the flakey IDE1 or could it be video card (Kyro II), memory, or BH6 related? How can I tell? Is there a hardware diagnostic program(s) I can run to tell me what to replace. I don't have a lot of free, unspoken-for cash, so I generally try to evolve the system forward. I recently bought a Seagate 120G HD (to replace the 3 smaller drives), which I found out I may have trouble with - fdisk did format and partition it to 6 partions of 20G each ( to mimic the legacy setup from Win95) but I had trouble copying the old drives to the new - due to the frequent lockups I hope. I could afford to buy another BH6 or BX6 from eBay but not a complete set of new m/b, processor, and memory. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
