I have a GeForce 6800 Non-Ultra (generic brand, but based on the reference PCB & heatsink). I also purchased a Zalman VF700-CU to quiet it down a bit.
So far, I can't get it to work. With the stock heatsink, the card runs fine. With the VF700, it gives me (bad) artifacts constantly. I suspect that I'm not getting good contact, but I can't tell why. Right now I'm using the "white paste" that came with the Zalman, but I'm going to switch to AS5 when it gets here next Monday. I tighten down the screws on the Zalman until they bottom out, but the heatsink can still be wiggled around, as if it's not making contact with the card.
I thought that it might be the shim, but I realized that the stock heatsink is flat on the bottom anyway.
I have an NV Silencer 5 coming with the Arctic Silver 5. I'm going to see if I can get some better results with it.
Is there anything I need to know about the VF700-CU that's not covered in the directions?
