Trouble with the Raptor

Just bought a brand new Raptor to go along with my new desktop. 74GB. First day I put everything together, problems problems problems. Solved a lot of them with bios updates and driver updates, but still there was a problem with booting up lag. It took wayyyyyyyy longer than it should've booting up. I installed XP, and the thing lagged so bad. At first it was the vid card, but after I updated the drivers, that went away. I mean, it's not supposed to take this long. I have an AMD 64 3500+ rig here. Everything is like, high perf. So I don't get it. Then when I thought maybe XP had a problem installing, I tried wiping the drive, and reloading XP. Cept now it won't load XP into it anymore. It keeps freezing on the load. So I wiped it again, and tried installing XP into my 200GB Barracuda. No problems. The system is actually running pretty fast now. So I don't get whats going on. Bad drive? could it be the sata cable? I haven't tried switching it yet. Any ideas? I think i'll try that 2mrw. i dunno wat to do... suggestions?
 
um like dont be a noob and post which mb ur using....what bios options are u using? have u enabled sata150? as the primary boot device? info man
 
im using an MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum mobo... bios has been updated to see if they fixed problems with hdd settings

sata DMA transfer is enabled, i dun believe there are many other hdd settings. As for an option to enable sata 150, there is none

the raptor was set as primary boot when i started out... not now tho... it was detected, and i was able to install xp once into it. but after that, it juss crashes on meeh everytime
 
Long shot here, but either try using SATA on the 2, 3 connectors (instead of 0,1) because I've heard about problems with the 0,1 connections for SATA (esp for RAID 0). Or, if you can, get a hold of another SATA drive and see if it really is just the motherboard. If you don't notice any wierd noises coming from the HD, I'm guessing it's probably a problem with the mainboard.

I tried switching them around. Nothing worked. I switched the cables, the power plugs, the connectors, the ports. When I try to install XP, it freezes on the format. It went through when I did a quick format, but I wanted a full wipe. But it always freezes on 2%. I do have another SATA drive. A Barracuda. Works fine. Loads all the data, and everything without problems. I might RMA the board anyways just in case. It's going to make me wait another week, but I've just be having so much problems with this setup that I don't understand. I RMA'd the Raptor today. I should be receiving the replacement on Tuesday or Wednesday.
