I keep getting this error when trying to install any OS...this is the picture i get after booting into Linux Mint 9 KDE. It works fine as a live disk until I try to install the os onto the hard drive. It will let me go all the way to the end and right as it reaches 100%, i get this:

screen.jpg

I have tried:
different known good HD's
different ram
Different CPU
Different DVD_roms
Multiple OS disks

I'm trying to figure out what is initializing differently when the os finishes loading that might be causing this.

Model of laptop is HP DV2214US

I checked your model, and since you have an Nvidia chip it's probably affected by the bad GPUs. It looks like the same problem I had with my dv9000 series. I could boot into a Live Linux disk just fine, but I couldn't install and load the OS without weird video artifacts. When I tried to load Windows, it would act like it would boot, but the machine would restart after the splash screen.

I just fixed it last night with trick_m0nkey's great tutorial here: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1531323

yeah, I saw that post after I had a mod move my OP from the general hardware forum..anyone got a heat gun I can use :)

One thing I recommend is using the repair guide they provide for your exact model. It makes it a lot easier to tear down and reassemble. :)

Good luck!
