Trouble while overclocking my amd64 3200+

Whenever i change settings in my bios, i believe it is just when i raise the HTT(as in this is the only setting that causes me problems when i try and change it), and try and exit the bios and save them, my computer stays on and just beeps, nothing is on the screen, its like it is stuck in reboot mode or something, and even if i turn it off and then back on it does the same thing. THe only way i have been able to cure this is to reset the cmos, thankfully mine is just a button.

This is a huge issue for me, i have no idea why it keeps doing this, does anyone know? I obviously need to be able to change this, since its a huge part of overclocking. I can raise the HTT in windows with a program for testing purposes, and i already know what im gonna overclock it to, and have actually testing that setting for 24hours in prime95, but it wont let me raise the HTT in the bios, HELP!

My computer did this when the ram timings were too tight at the FSB I was trying to boot at. Your problem sounds somewhat similar. Being able to OC in windows but not bios is very odd.

It wont even let me boot if i raise the HTT 3mhz though, i do that and it does the wierd restart thing. I guess i will have to try lowering my ram divider or something, but does anyone have any idea what is causing this?

I would also like to add that it seems my voltage raise in the bios doesnt work either. I have it set to 9.9 percent over or something like that, and that is supposed to give me around 1.53V and when i go into windows, core center makes the voltage what it has and that only goes up to 1.5V at the highest. So should i just disable core center on start up or what, i am completely lost right now, very angry, nothing is working right.

Corecenter doesn’t “make” your vcore lower, but it does tend to read a bit low. Make sure your “start” vcore is at max, then add the percentages. Yes, you will get blinking warning lights, just MSI’s way of letting you know you are out of spec.

Get CPUZ and run that to double check your vcore. It’s a bit more accurate then corecenter for true voltage readings.

Please be careful, with “start” voltage up all the way and your percentage raised all the way it’s not hard to hit 1.7 or 1.8 or higher “real” voltage, not a good thing for your CPU, so try it in stages.

Luck

Actually i think corecenter is making my voltages lower. Because i did check it with cpuz and it said what corecenter said, yet my bios said that it was suppose to be at 1.53 but corecenter says 1.5 as does cpuz. So i dont know what is going on. And my real problem is not the voltage, but instead it is the fact if i raise my HTT even 3mhz my comp wont reboot. But thanks for replies

I was having the same problems where i would set my voltage to 1.55, but cpuz said it was 1.5, when i lowered it to 1.5125 cpuz read 1.5-1.52 voltage now. I dont know why setting it on 1.55 in the bios didnt work, maybe it was too high? or maybe voltage needs to be taken in steps, mhz by mhz.

try 1.5125 or the 1 higher than 1.5 and see if cpu z sees that voltage.

loosen your ram timings and put the divider down one notch (or more). I believe they call it ram frequency or something.

find your hyperthreading multiplier and reduce that. (stock should be 5.) Your HT um, thingy, is not supposed to go over 1000. You get it by multiplying your FSB/HT link (same thing essentially. I'm not good at explaining all these names) by your multiplier.

If your Vcore is above stock at all, then you shouldn't have a problem overclocking 3mhz.

Maybe your board doesn't have a PCI/AGP lock and it is really sensitive.

What board do you have anyway?

Its in my sig, but you might have those disabled, so its the MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum. And i have done all those things, and i raised my voltage, but it wont reboot, i have no idea what is going on?

could you explain the hyper thread multiplier, mine is set on 5, how do you get the 1000 number. what do you times the hyper thread multiplier by. if my fsb is 220mhz, multiplier 11, thats 2.42 ghz, where does that 5x number come in all this. Is it 5x 220 that gives the hyper thread multiple?

If you read eclipse's OC'ing guide he explains it all, please dont come into my thread and ask your own questions, especially when mine still need to be.

Here is the link, read this, Eclipse's OC Guide

hmmm. This is pretty confusing. With loose ram timings and a ram divider running, that cant be the problem.

Is Cool'n'Quiet disabled?

try lowering your CPU multiplier then trying to raise your fsb.

Don't try to OC more than 3-5 mhz at a time. It seems you are probably already doing this b/c you seem to have read the OC guide.

Make sure your hyperthreading multiplier is low (but I already said that, :) ). BTW davez82 I sent you a private message answering your question.

Is anything wrong with your temps? What kind of case fans do you have? What is your room & case temperatures? CPU temperature?

Thats the weird thing, when i have my cpu overclocked to the spot i want it at, 2.48ghz @1.5V it is only running at 38C under load, so thats really good. I have a cheiftec case, its a big server case with lots of airflow. I have 4 80mm fans and the psu fan, and also a zalmann heatsink/fan the flower one, smaller size i think 90mm one. Everything seems to working good since my temps are so low. I am gonna have to try lowering my cpu multi next time i raise teh HTT. We will see.thanks for help, if you think of anything else, let me know.

I just updated my bios last night i used msi live update and got the current rev, so that isnt it, i did however get much more voltage control with that bios, but it did not fix my current issue.

Howdy@!

I am running a MSI Neo4 SLI Platinum with now a 3200+ CBBHD (if you don't know what that is, it is a revision of the processor).

After having one whale of a time with the 3200+ since my 3500+ had no issues, I found a new bios that was definately worth trying. Previously I had run Platinum bios' 3 3.1, 3.3 and 3.4.

Diamond Bios 1.5
Yes it is for diamond boards, but the Diamonds and the Neo4 SLI Platinum are the same (7100 boards). I flashed my board with this bios, and was able to overclock without issue. I am now running my 3200+ which previously would not go over 2.16 Ghz at 2.6 or 260x10 3xHTT and my ram divider at 166/200 so the ram is at 216. My Corsair seems to have an issue with this board, but when I used my OCZ, I can run 1:1 at 260.

So my recommendations are to upgrade your bios to 1.5 or equivelant. lower your times to 2.5-3-3-7, move your HT multi to 3, then try your overclock.

Two questions, is it ok that my board is not SLI? And two, where do i get this bios, do you have a link?

I did a quick google and came up with this site:
http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/bios/bos/spt_bos_detail.php?UID=106&kind=1

You might have to play around with the links on the side to get to the right one, I have little experience with MSI boards and have no clue which board "MS-1847" (made that up) corresponds to.

I already updated my bios it didnt help the fact that when i raise the fsb a bit it wont reboot. But i am gonna try getting a new bios from another person soon, and try that later this weekend when i get back in town sunday. I will let you guys know if that helped.
