Trouble Installing RX 480 Drivers

Hello, maybe you guys can help me out.
I'm on the Slow Ring of the Windows Insider program, so that could be the whole issue.

I have an MSI RX480 X 4G and all drivers, that I've tried, refuse to install.
The default Windows drivers work, just fine, but they don't allow for overscan adjustment and/or custom resolutions (both of which I want).
When I try the latest 16.12.1 drivers, I get a BSOD (Video Scheduler Internal Error).
When I try the latest WHQL 16.10.1 drivers, I get a Resolution Not Supported error on my 1080p monitor (wondering if the driver is sending 2160p).
I even tried the latest driver from the card's support page (16.9.1, I think) and it gave the resolution error.
If I try manually installing the drivers (Device Manager and such), I get the same errors as above.

Ultimately, I just want the AMD app that allows me to tinker with the card's settings.
I don't really care what version of the driver or any optimizations.

have you tried ddu to clean up old drivers etc and then install the new 16.12.1?
maybe hop onto the fast ring and install the new update 14986. although I am using a 280x they installed and are working just fine for me and I'm on IP14986. and the only problem ive had with it is that my Dolby DTS over optical hacked driver stopped working now I only get stereo in games again and have to use my amp trickery for "5.1"

Just bought the exact same card. Working like a champ in this Dell T3500 workstation.

What OS are you running? Run DDU in safe mode first.

I had trouble getting the drivers to install in Win 7. Installing from the MSI disk through Windows Device Manager did the trick. Then did same with Crimson-16.11.5-Nov25 driver.

Slow ring Windows Insider is Windows 10, but slightly or significantly ahead of Windows 10 retail fully updated (I'm on the fast-ring). Slow ring is considered the more stable version than fast ring.

Unfortunately, I am not running an AMD card so I can't help in regard to drivers but thought I'd answer the Windows version question.

DDU did it!
I hadn't used it, before, so thanks for the tip.
I'm not sure if some old official driver was causing the problem, or the Microsoft version, but it's working.

I will note that they seem to have removed the ability to adjust overscan.
Now, they have a Virtual Super Resolution (or something like that) option.
Ultimately, both accomplished the same goal.

Well, enabling Virtual Super Resolution did adjust the overscan on my 2160p TV (setting the pixel format to PC didn't fix it).
It did not adjust overscan on my 1080p projector.
I had to slide the HDMI Scaling bar.
But, when I changed the pixel format to PC, I had to slide the HDMI Scaling bar back.
Hehehe...

Interestingly enough...
Virtual Super Resolution was enabled for the 1080p TV, that I use as a monitor.
It was disabled for the 1080p projector and 2160p TV (although it did give me a notification to enable it for the 2160p TV).
I'm not sure when it's appropriate to use Virtual Super Resolution and when it isn't.

Virtual Resolution is not what you think it is.. AMD VSR is basically a resolution upscaling feature. it doesn't work on your 4K TV because the main goal of VSR is to upscale game UP to 4K resolution in the common case of being used at 1920x1080, so low demanding games or non-demanding at all you could crank up the resolution to 2560x1440 or 3840x2160 or even anything between 1080P and 2160P...

what you looking to do is with GPU scaling, which is also in the Display Section. where you can preserve Aspect Ratio (which is useful with some HDMI devices) Full panel or Center (which help with certain projectors)
