Hi There! Rookie Hardforum guy,been building comps for 10 years but this time around im stuck!I built a new comp(my sig)2 months ago,had some initial problems with mobos-Abit IP-35,bios screwed---Asus P5K-Premium Wifi/AP,excellent board but double boot issue so RMA it...Anyways,Really satisfied with current setup except the processor!But should i Go for The E8400 or a newer Core2Quad? Looking 2 OC to 3,8-4,0 Ghz on air....

P.S Maybe sum new RAM also??? pc8500 or something like that????

Suggestions/Advice needed!!

As said...any suggestions needed!Do i gain any "Real world" performance by adding an E8400 and oc:ing it to say 4 Ghz or an Core2Quad Q9450 And oc:ing it to 3,6 and up...Im 90% doing gaming so im really looking for the that final touch of smoothness!(sorry if im spelling badly sometimes,been a while since last English lesson... :) )
 
Uh, you got a great system. Upgrading will do nothing but empty your wallet.

Unless you are one of those uber rich living in the UAE... there is no need to change anything.
 
I would say that there isn't enough of a performance benefit moving from a 3.6 E6750 to a 4.0 E8400 to make it a worthwhile investment.
 
thanks 4 the fast replies!so i guess ill stick to the e6750 for a while then,Intels bound to come out with something interesting soon....just thought(spelling bee winner...nooot) that i would benefit from an 45Nm Proc as the Gigabyte board is made in mind of such an proc....!!!


Maybe more gains could be bu buying an second 8800 GTS card????

Second video card is not really an option with that motherboard unless you switch to ATI, as it doens't support SLI. I'd sit tight on the money and see what ATI and Nvidia drop this summer - should be a new cycle of cards coming.
 
No need to change your current power supply either unless it's broke.
