Hi y'all.

My father and I both have a camera - him a video camera and me my D-580. And we both need a tripod.

He uses his to tape dancing and I use mine for random crap - but my hands shake.

Sooo, can all you pros with tripods please recommend one to us. Single screw, and tall enough for someone 5'7 to use comfortably.

Cant name one specifically but I got mine from Bestbuy for about 35$, it has a vertical and horizontal bubble level which comes in pretty handy, VERY light and sturdy. Im 5'8 myself and its fine for my height and above- telescoping feature. Also try Ritz Camera stores, or any decent camera store.

for a decent cheap tripod I'd recommend the UT2001 from Sunpak/Quantary. You can usually get it from Ritz Camera for around 19 bucks. For YOUR needs this one ought to do the trick. I have one and it seems to work well. I think it extends 48 inches.

For a small digital camera I use a Velbon Max i 343e. It's light and portable, it folds up to less than 1.5ft and weighs less than 2lbs. I think fully extended it's just under 6ft.

The ballhead is nice for a small camera like my G3, but I don't trust it with my heavier DSLR. I'm either going to put a different head on it, or get a different tripod to use with my DSLR. You'll definately want a different head for a camcorder.

aka Bogen/Manfrotto

agreed, great mono/tripods

have two wouldent trade them for anything :D

manfrotto tripods are very expensive...I don't know why so many people are suggesting this option for someone who just wants to take landscape pictures with a cheap point and shoot digi cam.
