I'm looking for a tripod, nothing fancy, nothing professional, something that'll be a good 40-50" height and as low as maybe 5" height for short shots. I looked at a kodak tripod the silver one, it was too expensive $30, but i liked how it handled the camera, anything similar to that but cheaper?

thanks.

Try Circuit City or Best Buy........even Wal-Mart if you're just looking for inexpensive.

I'm not an expert on tripods, but I'm fairly sure that $30 is getting close to the cheapest you can get a normal-sized tripod for. If you're looking for a tripod that can cover a 10-fold size range, you're going to pay a lot more than $30. The only tripods I know of off the top of my head (that aren't tiny tabletop models) that can get down to anywhere near 5" are the Benbos, which have a pretty unique design and are way out of your price range.

We've had a couple of threads on tripods in the past. I can probably dig out my specific comment if you'd be interested, but suffice to say: you get what you pay for. If you buy a $20 tripod that can function at a decent height, it's going to be rickety, unsteady, fragile, and probably lack some of the features a "decent" one would have (like levelling bubbles, degree markings, etc.). I'd say save up the money to get a $40-$60 tripod. I think you'll be much happier with it.

I'm not sure this URL will work, but give it a try. That's B&H's tripod specials, sorted from cheapest to most expensive. Something like this may be a good buy, but I'm not sure how likely it is that a local store would carry it. I definitely wouldn't buy a tripod without being able to play with it first.

looks like the $30 silver kodak tripod that officedepot has.

I'll just buy that one from them, seems like a nice tripod
