Triple Eyefinity setup with cheap HDMI Freesync monitors?

I am curious:

The best value triple monitor setup seems to be getting three cheap Freesync monitors and a midrange Radeon card, letting Freesync smooth out the gameplay when running more intensive titles.
However - the cheapest Freesync monitors, including the affordable curved C24F390/C24F396 models, all rely on HDMI for Freesync. To my knowledge there are no cards with 3xHDMI outputs, to run three of those.

Looks like most cards support passive DP adapters (max of 2 passive adapters, but all cards also have at least one HDMI out). Does Freesync work if you adapt the signal with a passive DP->HDMI adapter or cable?
