thx!

For gaming, I think triple is better than dual. Triple allows you to have a big screen centered, then screens for peripheral vision. I don't like having the bezel directly in the center, so I wouldn't game on a dual monitor setup.

afaik, the 27s are 2560x1440 and the 30s are 2560x1600. I'd rather have 2560 extra pixels of horizontal resolution than 160 extra pixels of vertical resolution.

now i'm using a dual 24",, but what really scares me is dot pitch of 27", even if i never tried it....

And the 16:9 aspect ratio. In a triple setup the width is fine but the height is lacking badly.

Have you see a triple setup? I would personally prefer 3x27" than dual 30'.

I'd rather have dual 30. That res is much nicer in portrait.

This. I've tried dual 30"s for gaming and it doesn't work. It wasn't enjoyable at all. I added a third and couldn't be happier.

i think i've found the optimal solution....i use the old 24" (2408wfp) in portrait mode (for mails, internet, manuals, etc) + i add 2 u2711.

That's fine. Though you can't really game on them that way unless you restrict everything to one monitor. Then again you may not be talking about Eyefinity / NV Surround.

Triple 27" The extra resolution is huge. Having the peripheral vision is also huge. Having 3 screens allows you to have more apps open simultaneously for ease of access to information.

Most Definitely Go with the Triple 27"rs if they're 2560x1440 each. You're going up in resolution and a lot more of it. I have triple 30"rs so I know the dot-pitch is small. I just made windows font size go up %125 and is now completely usable. Increased font size in browsers too.

If the three 27" monitors can be put in portrait mode, it will be good for eyefinity gaming if that was your plan.

Unfortunately, it will be poor for media viewing, as most pictures, videos, and movies are in widescreen format, which you'll have little horizontal span per monitor (and you don't want to span multiple w/ annoying bezels in the way).

Landscape doesn't have this issue, but landscape eyefinity is a miserable experience on many titles, with HUDs stretched to the extreme corners, FoV issues causing massive fishbowl action on the side monitors rendering them painful to look at directly, which makes mouse scroll necessary in some for the view to stay on the center monitor which as you can imagine is a huge PITA picking up and dragging the mouse a mile.

Two 30", where you just game on one of the two, is another good option, and two 30" are plenty for multitasking. I was running three 24" monitors until recently, and honestly I rarely ever used the right-most monitor for multitasking, two is enough.

@Ducman69: It's true that a lot of older titles have issues with their huds, and require a bit of modding to get FOV correct. Though, most newer games have developer that are getting their shit together and supporting surround gaming. On top of that, most people who sit down at my computer and play games have no issues with the extra FOV. In fact, they like it. At first it may be a bit over whelming, but then they get used to seeing more of the world.

I have 3 x 30"rs, so when the hud is on the extreme end of the monitors it can be annoying, but I also find in a lot of shooters / racers / first person anything, that the HUD tends to clutter the middle screen. In a lot of cases I prefer the hud on the ass end of the screen.

I try not to rely on the HUD too much. Like you I actually like the added FOV. I find it very useful.

As far as web development, you'll really want the vertical space, so I would much prefer a 4:3 ratio dual monitor setup. For gaming, I agree with other posters that you want 3 monitors; again the 4:3 aspect ratio with 3 monitors will look much better than the 16:9. If you only have a single monitor or watch a lot of movies on the computer, then a large 16:9 is great.

More space is always good. I'd rather have dual 30"s as I can make 1280 or 1024 sized windows and put them right next to each other with space left over. the largest 4:3 monitors I've ever seen were 1600x1200. As a result I've got more vertical space than such a monitor provides. My point? There is really no need for 4:3 monitors in this day and age. Wider is better whether in portrait or in landscape.

No, the problem is the FoV of the game is too narrow, so what you get on your screen is a small 16:9 area that looks "normal" and everything else outside that on the side monitors is severely stretched and usually a bit diagonal looking. Looking directly at those monitors is painful. Many people think, well, I'm just going to get what I see now but wider and it'll be a huge advantage in FPSs!!! But then the reality hits that the side views are so distorted it will give you a headache trying to look at it or make out space and distance since they look larger and sideways giving no FPS advantage at all.

Thats why you see so many threads for games trying to fix the FoV for eyefinity. And worse yet, some HUDs are not just merely informational, but are frequently used menu items that you actually need to click.

See, if you look at this setup, there is next to no fishbowl action going on, very nice:

But viewing widescreen pics/vids/movies on just the center monitor would suck obviously.

But then look at landscape.... bluahhh!

You really can't tell exactly where or how far away they are, since it will warp into view as you turn.
