I'm planning out a casemod and part of it will be include an acid-etch of an object with stylized flames around it. Normally I'm not too shabby on artwork, but gosh --I just can't pull this off.

Anyone know tricks to doing stylized flames? Believe it or not, I couldn't find a guide for doing this :(.

i usually draw mine out first with a pencil, or trace the outline with a razor blade....just a tip

I've been trying to do it in photoshop. Just realized the smudge tool will probably be enough to do this. Not sure why I was trying to draw them out on my cursor instead of just 'shift' the obect shape out into flames :).

do it in illustrator. its much tidier.

Buying an expensive product like illustrator might not be too cost effective. I would just draw it by hand, and use a pencil and eraser.

he already said he was doing it in photoshop, which, since i've owned most of the versions, know to cost more than illustrator. he's either a designer or a software pirate, either of which would mean illustrator is a perfectly viable tool k thx bye.

Thanks for the responses, I managed to do it decently well using the smudge tool in photoshop. All the advice was appreciated though :).

Hardwired, I don't own Illustrator :). I own photoshop because it's useful for two of my side-jobs / hobbies --book publishing and web design. I don't know if I could say I own it legally though, because I pitched in with several family members for it. Technically that probably makes me a part-time pirate.
