Tri Sli to single card solution

I am hoping to get some group advice here so that I can make a quick decision. I am trying to do the reserch to compare my setup with newer cards but it is proving difficult because the results are rarely in the same comparison charts.

Basically, I currently have a 6990 and 6970 in Sli. That setup draws enormous power and I don't play BF3 and BF4 nearly as much as I used to (or want to). Life is getting in the way. I would like to go to a single card solution that will come close to my current setup but that won't break the bank. It doesn't have to exceed what I have. I just don't want to drop in quality or FPS by much or at all if possible.

I was thinking GTX 680 or r280X. Would that do it or would I have to go even higher?

Thanks all.

Most likely an r290x,a gtx 780ti, OG titan or gtx 760s in sli I would think. Best bet is probably a 290x or 780ti used.

Thanks for the quick response. I haven't looked at the 780ti's yet, but the 290x cards run really high here in Canada. HAven't found one for less than 700 yet. I wonder what the power draw on 2 X 760s would be? Although, I would really like to get away from dual cards. My current setup actually trips my brand new 1200 what PSU sometimes (sets off the siren on the cards). Those thiings are absolute power pigs together.

Well I bought a new R9 290 card on ebay for 400 Canadian a couple weeks ago.

Also at buy/sell Canadian forums cards like R9 290 going for 300 bucks.

Thanks. It is the r290x that was at 700 or above. But appreciate the list as I was not aware of some of those sites. I am hoping that I don't need a r290x. Too expensive. Yet I am not convinced that an r290 will match what I have. IT looks like I may be better of with an Nvidia card? Cheaper and more powerful for the price?

Well Nvidia cards are good, but I disagree with you.I sold all my Nvidia cards and went with R9 290 crossfire, way cheap and equal in performance .
EDIT:If your looking at single card performance try out the for sale forums, you may be able to get 780GTX for 430-450 used and 780 Ti 650-700 used.

There is very little reason to buy a 290x over a regular 290. The extra cores is about 4% increase in performance for almost 200 dollars. Just buy a regular 290 and be done with it.

Does anyone know of any reviews out there that still have even just a straight 6990 in it as compared to the 290?
