Running 3 7970s in tri fire since the Launch of the cards and are having problems as of late with negative scaling, inconsistent benchmarking ( I'm using the most current caps and driver ). One thing that has always been working perfect is BF3 and generally Heaven. 3dmark 11 is horrible, f1 2012 and crysis 2 are only in the 40 Fps territory and Afterburner is reporting usage in the 70% range across all three cards. Should I wipe my system and start over? Maybe old driver remnants are messing things up?
System Specs
Cpu 2600K @ 4800Mhz
Mobo Asus Maximus IV Extreme
Corsair 8 Gigs
Power Supply Corsair 1200
Video Cards 3 X Gigabyte 7970s @ 1050/1700
Operating System Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate

Ok i figured out that any Cat driver after 12.4 completely screws up my Tri-Fire setup, 3dmark 11, crysis 2 , Batman , f1 2011, all only run with 2 cards or the the GPU usage go into the tank across the board. If i run any of the newer caps after 12.4 i begin to lose performance as well but not as much as the newer driver. So what the hell gives AMD?
Here is a 3dmark 11 run with moderate overclocking

I had similiar type problems. Rather than start over and do a fresh install I removed AMD software from my system. Following a reboot I went into my registry and manually deleted all things AMD/ATI. I then rebooted and installed the latest drivers 12.8 with the latest Cap. I have had zero issues so far except for the occassional monitor going blank requiring me to disable my display group and then create a new display group.

Your situation sounds very similar to what I've been experiencing. After Cat 12.4, I just had a ton of issues with Crossfire. 12.6 caused a lot of issues with ULV for me, keeping the 2nd card in the off state even when gaming. 12.7 and 12.8 helped a little bit.

With that said, my OCZ Vertex 2 crashed a couple of weeks ago. After replacing it and doing a fresh install of Win 7 with the 12.8 drivers + latest caps this system is now screaming along. It's almost like night and day.

Are you running Tri Fire with 12.8s and latest cats?
If you are i will probably wipe my system and start over.

Just two cards here. One thing you could try is just using two cards in the CCC panel to see if the problem with negative scaling persists.

Now Guild Wars 2 is playing in the 100fps range with 12.4 Cats and latest Caps Bonus!!!

I am running Tri Fire with latest drivers and caps. All is well, except for the occassional monitor that goes blank.

Johhny can you run a 3dmark 11 with the newest deivers and caps? Im running 12.4s with latest caps, any newer Cat seems to eliminate my 3rd card in almost every game and benchmark.

Sorry for the delayed response, work is killer right now. I will run try to run it today when i get home and report back.

Driver issue. Prior to the 2 drivers listed below the last driver that scaled ok was RC11. The drivers below are good for 3dmark 11. I would use the 9.01 until official beta is released next week. The August 15th has some issues with CCC I would avoid it I had a hard time uninstalling it. Even through it gives a little better score no noticeable performance gaming wise between the 2. Both seem to give better image quality running adaptive AA and high quality texture filtering with 2x AA set in most games.

Eyefinity is still broke but is getting better somewhat with the Sep 4th drivers. Instead of system freezes I am getting crash to desktops now with a AMD driver has stopped responding when using eyefinity and trifire.

Sep 4th drivers from guru 3d = good scaling 20.8k trifire 3dmark11 score.

August 15th drives from guru 3d = better then Sept. 4th = 22.6k trifire 3dmark 11 score.

I tested with and without 12.8 cap3 made no difference.

These score at with 7970 reference card using ghz bios stock clocks of 1050/1500.
