Does there exist a compact subwoofer small enough for travel? Ideally, something that would fit into the checked baggage on a plane, or take up as little space as possible in car trunk?

Don't care too much about sound accuracy, just impact needs to be at least halfway-decent.
 
What will this be used for? Just easy to move from place to place? Or for portable use?

I travel a lot for conferences/work. I listen to a lot of heavily bass-focused music that really sucks to listen to with any type of headphones or speakers without a dedicated sub.

I've seen some tiny Logitech subs used in cheapo 2.1 setups that provide vastly more impact than, say, a set of studio monitors by themselves. It's boomy, but is a lot better than nothing. If I can get something similar that is small/light enough to pack into my luggage, it would definitely be worth buying.
 
You may also want to look into the Energy ESW-M8. Now it doesn't dig as deep as that DefTech(20hz vs 36hz) but its smaller(9in cubed), about 9lbs lighter, and can be found on ebay for about $390 shipped.
 
You want a travel subwoofer that you can put in your car? As in a rental car you get from place to place?
