Hey guys just wondering all of the posts I have been reading lately seem to vibe that my card is a piece and I should have never invested my $500 to get it. Should I trash my ATi card and go to NVIDIA or is the card I am using a good decision. Im just tired of analyzing all of the posts and I am now making a thread to see what BOTH sides think.

Thanks

Lol, I doubt very much that you'll trash your X800XT. It's more likely that you're just looking for sympathy from the people here to reassure you that your card is good.

No $500 card is going to be a POS, and you would be a fool to throw it away and buy an Nvidia. Take it from someone who's stuck with a 9600XT.

The XTs sweetspot is $450. For $500 most people would go with the Ultra [myself included] some of which come at 425/1100 out of the box.

So while it's certaintly not a bad buy, not by a longshot, it's not a steal either.

You'd be foolish to be swayed by what rabid !!!!!!s have to say. Do some quick research on your own and then decide. The card you have is close to the top of the line, anyone that says otherwise is full of shit.

The closer ATI & nVidia are in performance, the harder it is determine a winner. That in turn makes the followers of each company defend thier product with more determination. So, by looking just at the constant arguing (and no actual card related stats), you can conclude that the two are neck and neck. Keep your card.

The original post looks like it fishing for compliments on a purchase. If that is the case, throw that card away. It is a piece of shit.

Edit: changed "and" to "at"

Personally I think the X800XT is a better card, but the reason everyone is saying nvidia is better on this board is because they have an nvidia. It's just a way to justify why they got the nvidia over the ati. The reason I got the nvidia is because the price difference wasn't worth the performance difference. If you are willing to spend $500 on a card then keep it. Don't get rid of it based on the opinions of nvidia owners.

It's like asking a liberal what they think of Bush, you arent going to get a good answer. That's not the greatest analogy, but you get the point.

aZn_plyR beat me to it, but I would trade you my 6800GT /w NV 5 Silencer for it. :D

bro, just a heads up, your sig is over the 10 line limit...by a lot. As for the card, I think you'll be happy with your XT...I am attached to the Ultra though

x800xt = drooooool

its a purty nice card last i heard...here is the deal, if you are happy with your $500 going to a top of the line card that will bench 13000 in 3dmark03, then sleep well my friend. If you would've prefered to bench 11500 and saved ~$100, then shit yourself now and buy a 6800GT.

don't worry, you have the fastest video card money can buy, and you found one too. Consider yourself lucky,

BS. The GT is a better card than the X800Pro. Hands down. Theres plenty of data to back that up. I've got both. And I've used both. I install a few of them at work. X800XT is faster in some cases and slower than the 6800Ultra in others. IQ is roughly equal. If you've already got a X800XT stick with it. Theres no reason not to.

Same goes for owners of the 6800Ultra. Even in cases where the X800XT is faster it's not that much faster. Not enough to justify replacing the 6800U with a XT. No matter which company you prefer, both top offerings from both companies are good competitors to each other.

Its fine, I would be a owner of one right now if I wasn't so impatient.

I have to agree with the second poster. How about you make up your own mind based on what you see in reviews and what you witness first hand. I could never really imagine some of the BS I see on these forums swaying people, but apparently it does happen. There should really be a sticky on the top of the forums to www.8dimensional.com so people can formulate their own ideas on which card they want. Also put a link up to www.pricewatch.com so people can go find the cards.

-I never understood why people speak in like what seems like secret code in this forum.

stuff like: IMO, PITA, LMAO and so on......

why not just spell the dang words out and be done with it?

after all, would it really be all that much work in typing out a few more words in those replies?

The one question I have is, are you satisfied with the performance? If you look at the benchmarks, the X800 XT PE and the 6800 Ultra are very close, you aren't going a noticeable difference going from one to another in terms of speed, heck even in Doom III with CAT AI ATi has managed to catch up quite a bit.

My suggestion is just enjoy your card, and don't listen to what rabid company loyalists say on forums.

I just wish that ATi would drop the price of the standard X800XT to a pricepoint that is the same as the 6800GT, as the X800Pro simply does not cut it at the $400 pricepoint.

Are you kidding me? Any subculture develops its own jargon, this is inevitable. Also inevitable are those who ask "why can't we say things the old way?":p

if you drop the money down on a card like that and not do any research then your just not that smart... i myself like my 9600pro OCs like a crack whore and runs all my games fine..im a gamer not a benchmarker.... ;)

Thanks for all of the feedback guys. As a response to some of the posts. I did my homework and I research for a good long time to find out what I card I thought would be best at the time. No this is not posted for compliments on a purchase it is just an inquiry as to what LEVEL HEADED people think about it. I too am not much of a benchmarker, but I still do like to know where my card stands amongst other cards. Some of the threads I have read are adament on their decision that the ATi X800 XTs suck and this is what stirred me to thinking that I might have made a poor decision. Thanks again everyone for giving me your feedback.

Well CAT AI sucks and makes everything weird... the card's nice though. If I were buying I'd be going PCI-E Nvidia but that's because of SLI and the fact that if I ever wanted to stick it in the linux box it'd be terrible(ATI + linux = no). The x800xt is certainly equal or almost equal to the 6800ultra in a single slot solution on Windows.

uh why the heck are you disassitsfied with your X800XT? because some reviews said it wasnt as good? look, the XT can be easily OC'd to PE speeds and its single slot/power connector etc. it does better at the highest graphics settings than nvidia in most cases. seems like nvidia bias and marketing got to you and made you doubt your own opinion on what you wanted. if you really want a 6800U or something then get one but its a waste of money imo because you already have a card that rivals the 6800U and in many cases beats it.

I noticed he didnt say XT PE. $500 dollars is good I guess for shipping and insurance. I was lucky enough to find a X800pro Vivo for $329 at Compusa, someone had returned it. Softmodded it to XT PE 540/570 stable. I probably got the best deal in the forums! :D

yeah...if people talking about there 6800s is makeing you think twice...then their planned worked..and so did Nvidias :) i prefure ATI over Nvidia..cause in the long run..ati has always been better at new fetures like pixle shaders and stuff..yeah yeah i know "ill barly be useing them in the long run..."..but if im going to spend the money...i would spend it on something that does the job even though its not there

and if you are still feeling that you want to trash it...my pillow filled garbage can is open for you to throw it away in :D

I was torn in indecision on which card to buy for several months, but finally decided to go with a geforce only because of the price, it turned out to be a faster card... but only by luck.
Keep that XT, overclock, be happy, besides HL2 it's more than likely faster than a GeForce in Direct3D games, though slower in OpenGL

I love my X800 XT-PE. Everything runs great. As my 4th ATI card I have to say it does everything I expected of it. The big issue now is that both ATI and Nvidia are producing very equal cards. I am sure that a 6800 Ultra Extreme would run just as good in my system. I like the fact that the X800 is a single slot card with lower power requirements but that is the only real advantage that the ATI card has for me right now. PS3.0 for Nvidia.....3Dc for ATI...equals marketing hype in my opinion. (I know games have it or will soon but I have not seen any difference at this time.)

I do have to admit that Nvidia made me think real hard about witch card I was going to run.

I would keep the X800 XT and spend your money on the next gen cards that will be launched next year.
