I know some of you here are college students who live away from home and have big monitors that you'd like to take home with you during the summer and such. How do you guys do it? Do you guys keep the box and repack everything and let them check it at the airport if you're flying?

I want to treat myself to a large monitor, but I don't want to have to sell it off when I'm done my schooling next year and end up moving somewhere else to live.

I set mine screen-up on a seat. That's all I do. It's easy if you're not a wimp.

Keep the retail box, pack it in the car.

Or if you're flying, ship it, packaged in the retail box. Insured of course.

For my PC and my monitor both I have the box (the PC = the case box). Otherwise the one time I thought I lost the box (couldn't find it until a week after I needed it) I put pillows around it in the back seat with another box wedging it firmly at the base, with the screen facing the seat. Worked fine (no scratches/damage).

I shipped a Dell 2005fpw cross country in its original box. $30 at UPS. No probs. Still, I would prefer a laptop for college. Logistics of transporting a desktop are a pain.
