Transporting a SFF in a plane?

Hello.

transporting my comp for college was a huge pain in the ass. I had to ship it, which cost just under $100 insured. Anyhow, I don't really want a laptop, I'd rather switch to a SFF, such as the SN95G5. My question is, do you guys think it would be viable to shove it in a duffle bag and PACK it with clothes / protection and check the luggage on plane rides? Two hour flight from Chicago to Boston. Otherwise I could just ship it via UPS or Fedex, but I was wondering if anyone had ever taken one on a plane with them, as it would be cheaper and quicker. Anyone?

BTW, Think I could get through security with that in my backpack?
 
i have been tempted several times to bring mine as a carry on. if they let you bring a laptop they should have to let you bring a sff desktop

it would easly fit in the overhead bin or under the seat in front of you.
 
Yeah, it would be ideal, since i have extra keyboards / monitors / mice / speakers at home, I would be realllly happy if I could bring my comp home over breaks. I would get board spending a week without my precious... lol.
 
I would call them and ask. they might want to see it function or open it up. in the end it could be a pain, ya never know. best call them and then decide on ups. the carry on method works but I am sure they would do it but ya never know till ya get there and some guy's having a pissy day and says no ;)

Yeah, thats what I'm afraid of. You don't think I would have a problem if I checked in a piece of luggage though?
 
that has too many people handling it and opens up other avenues of crap to happen. personally that way makes me cringe
 
I have taken my SFF across both Canada and the US with no issues. They make you take it out so they can swab it and do what they have to do. Personally I dont trust the airport luggage department, and the only way I would be willing to bring it, is as a carry-on.

Get a PF30 Backpack... holds the SFF nicely and you can take it out easy too.

Thank you! That's exactly the kind of info I needed. Now upgrading to a new SFF sounds even more appealing!
