Transferring HD data

Is it possible to transfer ALL of the data from one harddrive to another one, including Windows XP and all of that stuff? Perhaps like a making a mirror image of the drive, so when you put in the new one, it'll be everything you originally had, just a bigger & better HD. Is that possible, and if so, how would you do it? Thanks in advance!
 
yes it is possible. Are you willing to pay money for it, or would you prefer a free option? If you don't care about money, I heard that Acronis TrueImage comes recommended. If you want free, there are other options, such as Driveimage XML or possibly doing some linux magic.
 
Do those progams require that the harddrives be in RAID, or do they both just need to be plugged in? Unfortunately, I don't think I can put my 2 HDs into raid because my old one is the original SATA HD and the new one is SATA 3.0GB/s.
 
Let me see if I understand you correctly: You have two HDDs, let's call them A and X. You have been using HDD A for some time now, with your windows install on it etc. You would like to "make an exact" duplicate of A onto X and then use X as your main HDD. If that is the case, then RAID has absoutely nothing to do with it. If that is not the case, I must have misunderstood you, maybe you can rephrase your question.

short answer: RAID is not related to this problem at all, given the way that you have described it and I understood it.
