Its really simple. I'm a network noob. I have a new Vista gaming system and want to transfer my music from my old system. I have a netgear router. The extent of my network knowledge is printing papers from my computer to the printer on my dads computer through the network and thats about it. Please, whats the simplest way to transfer my music? thanks

Connect the hard drive from the old computer to the new computer, as a slave. And then copy away.

connect both computers to the router, set the permissions, create a network drive, copy

Simplest way would be connecting both of the computers to the routers. Next step would be going to control panel > system > computer name tab and changing the workgroup, you want to make sure you put both of them on the same workgroup. You can just make one up :). Then, setup a shared folder by right clicking on it and gouing to properties> sharing and security. Make sure it is shared across teh network.
Next step would be going to my network places on your Vista machine and there should be something like CLIENTS, or COMPUTERS. YOu should see your old rig there, open the folder, shared, and there you should see your music folder, just copy the files over :)
