I've just ordered today an i7-3930K which is coming with a 2TB HD as the C: drive. I already have an SSD that I'd like to use as C: relegating the 2TB to E: drive. I'd like to keep the installed configuration exactly as it is, as it's an Alienware and it's not going to come with media. Ghosting the drive or other suggestions on how to do it quickly and easily would be appreciated.

I did the same thing you did I used Acronis Disck Director to clone the drive as long as the Os and installed programs dont exceed the SSD drive you are ok. Also try to keep at a min 10 to 6 gigs free on your SSD

I did this today using Easuse to do backup. cloned a 120gb ssd to a 240gb, then extended the partition (am i missing any steps?)

unplugged the old 120gb and changed boot priority in bios. But when i reboot it just keeps rebooting :(

Do i need to do anymore in disk management like make it active? (EDIT) I made it active now it says "Bootmgr is missing" :(

Edit again: nvm :) Forgot to set active partition to the "system reserved" part:rolleyes:

I'm not familiar with alienware but doesn't it provide a way to burn some DVDs allowing a restoration ?

I used Paragon Migrate to SSD because it allows you to choose which files to move and which to keep during the clone. Worked flawlessly twice so far on two different machines.

I don't know if the Alienware allows the whole C: drive to be burned as I won't be receiving the system for another couple of weeks. I was just trying to get organized so I can do it once the system shows up. As for Paragon, it sounds really good as does Acronis. Is Disk Director 11 a better choice than Migrate 7?
