Transfer PS3 game to HD

My blueray drive on the PS3 took a dump. While in the process of looking for another drive on ebay, I was wondering if it is possible to transfer my few PS3 games I have to the HD - is this possible or no because of the encryption that are on the games?

If not does the PS3 playstore work like steam, where if you have the hard copy you can get the game from the store since you already bought it?

Most games have an "install" option that copies most of the games data to your hard drive. How much is copied varies from game to game and you still need the disc to play.

Downloadable games on the playstation network store are completely separate from any physical copies you buy at a store. You are able to install that game on up to three consoles simultaneously and re-download as often as you need.
