I love ATI... but Im about to get a GT for a decent price, and I would rather have a new Radeon. Think anyone would trade me? Is it worth the trade? Should I stick with Nvidia this generation and suffer through it?

When I told my friends I was getting a GT they almost laughed, I always recomend ATI and I said I would never get another Nvidia.

Sorry, but the GT is much more advanced; you're looking at a 4 pipe loss and the lack of SM3.0 support. If you're dead set on getting an ATI, get an XT-PE (if you can find one) or try doing the X800Pro VIVO-to-XT flash.

i had originally planned on buying an X800 Pro VIVO, but i couldn't find one for a decent price so i bought a 6800GT. at first i wasn't happy with the 6800, but after a week or so i changed my mind.

it's a good card and VERY fast. better than the X800 series, IMO.

Well I wouldn't say the GT is superior, but it is a little better. Either stick with the GT or get the XT if you have to have a radeon

Go read the latest article in the inquirer...you will "fly" away from ATI for ....a while at least. In almost EVERY benchmark I have seen between these cards....6800GT....is more than the leader!

I think the 6800GT is the superior card - faster with more features. So I'm sure someone would trade you an x800pro for one. :)

Faster (almost always), PS3, 3D stereo, Better Linux Drivers, good opengl support, SSAA (for older games and alpha textures) = Better than x800 pro.

The x800 XT is a bit faster than the 6800 GT of course.

The 6800gt is = or faster than the x800pro in DirectX games

The 6800gt smashes the x800pro in OpenGL games.

You do the math, make your own decision. It was an easy one for me.

^ ^ ^ What he said.

I had a chance to bench both cards at work. The 6800GT felt much smoother.

Or just smashes the x800 in Doom 3, but I guess everyone just considers that to be a smashing since that is the only OpenGL game ever to come out.. :D

huh?

thats the only OPENGL game to ever come out? i hope your being sarcastic with that comment

Well the D3 engine will be used in the future for sure.
This is the highest level of !!!!!!ism I have ever seen where you actually feel Real life "shame" to go the other side. wow!

You have to fucking serious... I was being sarcastic man. Come on now. I guess I should have made this face. hahah, Anyway this is off topic now. Shutting up.

GT hands down
the x800pro gets it's ass owned in almost everything
also the 6800gt is future proof with new tech like SM3.0, HDR and a few other goodies ati cards do not and probly will not have, (IMHO)
opengl sucks bad on ati cards. and the d3 engine will be a huge engine for future games.
also i can't justify buying a 400-500 dollar card that has no future tech and is a 2-3 year old core........

You choose what YOU want.

I have a SFF, ATi all the way. I dont care about an extra 20frames when im still getting more than enough performance for my games at 1240x resolution with max everything. Couple that with the smaller size and less power requirements, thats my winner for my dollar.

You choose, you decide. Others can only tell you what they want or think. In the end, what suits you best is what you get.

I'm confused by your post...do you already have a X800pro that you want to trade for a GT?
Anyway..as others have said the GT is a better buy than the X800pro. As long as they are charging as much or more for a X800pro it won't be worth it....if it goes down to $300 or less then it would be a good buy.

Unless you can be guaranteed an X800 Pro that will flash and OC to XT PE specs, I would stick with the GT. The GT is a couple of Coolbits mouse clicks away from an Ultra, too.

I have a modded 16pipe x800 pro and can say without a doubt this is one excellent card, the talk of this card smashes this card in this game is all BS, im running Doom3 @ 1280x1024 4xAA 16xAF Quality set @ High and its running smooth as glass so what if the nVidia product is running 10fps faster im very happy with my purchase as im sure are others
:D

But why go out of your way to trade a GT for a x800 pro?

From everything that I have heard it wold probably be the best choice to stick with the GT, however I am an Nvidia addict so my views are a little slanted

GT. An XT PE would be the only thing to get me back to ATI this generation.

The x800 pro only gets "slammed" in the Doom3 engine
It doesn't always win in other games but usually only by a really small margin it loses.

Don't get me wrong, I would choose the GT over the pro though, but if you happened to get a pro off the shelf, it's not like anything to really cry over.

If you already have the GT though, why would you switch to a pro? (me thinking this might be a fake thread)

And hopefully if games go the Doom 3 engine, they make the physics/AI better because I'm not impressed. Lighting, yes awesome.

Why do people like you feel vindicated by the inquirer article? I see this a lot. People posting editorial stuff and links as some sort of proof? Like this article or something from Ed at overclockers. That guy at the inq doesnt mention one fact we didnt already know... like how nVidia has SLI and PS3.0 while ATi does not.... That nV wins a bit more in Doom3 than Ati does in HL2. So basicallly this guy rants and draws conclusions and this somehow vindicates you guys? What, can't think for yourself?

What about the weak points... like no mention of cooler - single slot ATi and the OEMS? No mention most PS3.0 is mostly performance driven, but hasnt led to nV owning DX? The rant about how expensive the cards are, but somehow SLI is still the coolest shit since sliced bread?

All in all, I say keep the GT.... mostly because $400 is less than $500 and 16 is more than 12... namely the GT seems a better card for the money. But damn people, think for yourselves. The inq article changes absolutely nothing. Look at the locked thread where the poster is all excited and vindicated. What a fool. The inq article matches previous forum grumblings from rabid nV people almost word for word. Thats more of an embarassment to the inq than a declaration everyone on their soapbox is right.

There is not one fact in there that forum readers dont often know. I sure knew those points.... reviewers and tech journalists know all that crap too... not the Off on a wild tangent shit but the actual facts (actually few and far between but alas). Draw your own conclusions. It's an interesting read, but I dont hold every guy who can get his shit published on the web up in some high regard. Especially when they'd rather rant than teach me even ONE thing.

Dont be like this guy, guess he didnt realize it was an editorial. Ahem, "the truth is out"...
I was being painted as a !!!!!!...nvidiot. The truth is out. Wow. This will absolutely blow away the excuses of the X800 series being cutting edge.

Baring in mind, the inquirer isn't exactly know for reliable articles, whether this be factual or opinion based.

At least you're honest. Since you're a dedicated follower of ATi you've answered your own question really. Ditch the GT and go for the X800Pro - all arguments for the GT are invalid in your case. The GT is made by NVIDIA and will therefore make you miserable and spew evil from every frame, there will be lots of frames but all so very evil.

Get the ATi X800Pro and shout hallelujah!!! :D

Why GT is better its faster it has more features......

I personally prefer ATi, but if I had a GT coming I would definately check it out before I decided to trade it for an X800 pro.

It's just too damned close this generation, I honestly can't say which card is better yet. (I've only tried the X800 pro, but it's looking like I'll be getting a chance to check out a 6800 now too so I'm excited. :) )

I think I might stick with the GT. I really wanted the new ATI card, but I will give Nvidia a chance this time. =)

By the way, the 6800 GT in any flavor is easily OC'able to 6800 Ultra speeds. Unless you get really unlucky, you can do that no problem.

So I paid 400$ for a 500$ card. You cant go wrong with that.
