Hi there,
Basically,I have "data loss",I've been running couple tests and everything seems fine except the 5th hop of every tracert.
Here is an example of the tracert to a local website
tracertq.jpg

As you can see on the 5th hop,there are an asterisks,its random,it can be * * 13ms,or * 13ms *,and so on.
My question is - is it packet loss?
Whos fault is it,infrastructure or isp ?

Not necessarily packet loss. Some routers drop ICMP packets if they are busy to "make room" for real traffic. So while it may be dropping ICMP, it may be forwarding normal traffic just fine.

Are you experiencing slowness or are you just doing trace routes to see what comes back? Does every website you go to follow the same path? If so, are they slow to load as well?

Since the next hop off your router is nv.net.il, as well as every hop after that, I'd say ISP. What ISP do you have? Does this go out to the Internet or is it going over a private point to point?

I live in Israel, and my isp is NetVision, infrastructure HOT cable connection.
I don't have router,I have viop, which is fully open with ports etc.
I do have the same results without voip connecter, but instead of hop 5 with asterisk, its hop 4. The tracert results im getting are quite fast to respond, but only at hop 5 it slows down.
I spoke to my isp and they said: "If we had a problem with our server - we'd have 25 thousand clients on the line right now,but we dont, aren't we?"
So what should I do now? ...

Run an extended ping to that router (ping -t) and let it run for a bit. CTRL-C will stop it and it will respond with your total packet loss. Forward it to the ISP if you are seeing significant loss.

troubleshooting ICMP is rather pointless for the most part, if you want to see if you are really losing data you should be running TCP based tests

if someone calls me with a tracert problem at work I usually just tell them we don't support it due to the way the infrastructure is configured

extended ping to router's ip is perfectly fine.
Ping statistics for 10.100.101.1:
Packets: Sent = 1234, Received = 1234, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 0ms, Average = 0ms

Same goes to tracert's hop #5
Can ping it without any problems, around 300 hops = 0% packet loss.
I don't get it why I don't receive all 3 pings from tracert and it really bugs me..

Often times, the router will be configured to rate-limit out-going ICMP packets, to prevent it from working itself to death.

I dont have a router,only voip.
As what I heard,mp202 can be used "like a router",so I called a company that I have a contract there with voip adapter and asked them to turn off everything that related to "router" thing, such as ports etc....
Plus I never had that problem before...it started couple weeks ago ..
