I am thinking of modding the front panel on TJ07 and installing a touchscreen.. havent exactly settled on a size of screen yet, but i am thinking a 5 inch display is enough... maybe 7 if itll fit.

My goal is to use this screen for informational stuff going on, downloads running, current temp, etc. Is there any front end software for this?

i havent made the switch to Windows 8 yet, but this may be the reason to upgrade, since the UI on windows 8 has widgets that i could use.

I don't know about installing a touchscreen as the front panel. I wouldn't do it to my HTPC.

would definitely mount in the 5.25 bay area, it will probably take 3 of them. Might be usefully to monitor the HTPC while watching TV on the TV.

i had something like that once that took a single 5.25 bay, i could never get it to work right with win 7. :(
