For those of you interested in the Windows 7 Touch Pack you should watch this. I’m not real big on rubbing my grubby fingers all over my monitor but this still looks pretty damn nifty.

A lot of showing off and too little practical demonstration in that video. Less goofing off would make for better presentations.

But luckily I already know how awesome the Surface is hehe. Chicago's Sheraton's Hotel about 7 blocks from my office has a Surface in their lobby with maps of Chicago and all kinds of other stuff in it.

looks a bit laggy for my taste.

It's not bad. The guy was just super hyper in that video presentation. He was being unrealistic with his gestures and touches. If you calm yourself and use it without flinging your fingers and wrist all over the screen, it's actually very responsive and smooth!

Ah so you take a Xanex before atempting to use it it and it works better! :p But that does look pretty spiffy.

We're gonna need a small sink and a towel rack within the vicinity of the monitor. And a velvet rope around the entire computer work area. :D

I'm into the touch screen, alot. Poke at the big stupid icons and execute precise movements with the mouse. They (monitor company a) just gotta see about having some kind of thin, removable layer which is easy to clean. My monitors get cleaned about once a week as it is though and I'm also really in to washing my hands and not being a dirtbag.

this will be great for us with carpc's. more and more it looks like i will just run plain win7 desktop instead of a frontend...

The lag between the touch and actual response was horrible. My iPhone does better with the Fluid app.

I don't know, maybe it's just me but I have to agree with Steve. The idea of putting my fingers all over my monitor just makes me cringe. WINDEX!!!

More useless touch demos with crazy lag, did you see that water distortion was like 6 inches from his finger tips, that would just be so great in games. More uninteresting flipping through photos. More tedious map navigating. Nothing original to do with this new technology? Really? Guess I will stick with a mouse then.

Actually this stuff overall works well and is pretty cool. Not very practical but cool. That said there are practical uses for this technology in certain scenarios. Handwritting is practical because it is still a way that is commonly used to conviey information. Maybe not as common as the keyboard these days but its still around and always will be I would think. Plus try typing formulas and diagrams.

There are times the stuff is practical but unfortunately I don't think it will be widely adopted though I think that there will always be enough people to support a niche market. I mean after almost seven years we are still getting tablet pc's. I a way that's remarkable in that the market has been around that long.

obvious alot of people didnt finish the video the screensaver was laggy but the google earth was very responsive. like anything new to mainstream give it a decent app or 2 and it will come into its own. looking forward to puting windows 7 on my wifes touchscreen tablet in the future.

It looks kind of cool, but too laggy. Sure the guys movements are dramatic - but seriously, I don't want to have to go slow just for it to seem smooth and like its keeping up with my movements in real-time.

the most useless app is the Photo one.

why the fock would you need to swirl the pics around, and toss them around like a pong ball?

stupid.

i'll stick to my mouse for that. and click the X in the upper right when i'm done

I don't really feel it to be convenient touching a monitor like that, a mouse is just much better, but I must admit that I really liked Ms Globe.

Very nice! Thinking of upgrading my tablet to a multitouch version when Windows 7 hits. Hopefully tablet makers take a hint from Apple, and start using glass screens with an oleophobic film.

OMG people...

1) Only the first demo was laggy.
2) It's an unfinished product.
3) It's a screen saver so it could be set to a very low priority so it doesn't waste power.
4) That computer is slow as balls... old laptop processor and Intel graphics in there.

The Japanese people/culture will be all over this for their interactive adult stuff. You thought their interactive sex games were wild now... LOL

I think it looks pretty cool. Now there just needs to be more touchscreen devices out there and monitors that do touch without being integrated into a computer (so hobbyists can buy a touchscreen monitor to pair with their PC).

Touchscreens are pretty sweet. I work as a receptionist at a fitness club and we have touchscreen monitors on the computers I use. I now find myself trying to touch my computer screen at home and other places.

Did you guys hear about the type of touchscreen he was using which is why it is laggy?? The main reason for the lag was because of the type of touchscreen he was using.
