Okay, so this feels like the wrong forum, but being as with windows 8, touch is now a full fleged input method, I feel like it should go in the "input devices" forum.

Basically, my question is twofold. I'm a desktop user primarily, but I also enjoy my laptop. However, I love the look of windows 8 using touch, but there seems to be no way to properly integrate it into anything other than a tablet. There's been numberous thoughts on HP touchsmarts and other touch desktops (along the lines of "the touch is pointless because its not comfortable") and touch on laptops usually ends up underused because of comfort as well. I have to elaborate at this point, to say that my desktop sits about 8 feet away from the user interface (I play on a 32" TV, so sitting a bit away is pretty much required.)

So part one - Is there any way to get a touch interface in windows 8 for the desktop user without making full new setup?

Part 2 - Is there any way to get a portable display with touch in order to incoporate this soultion?

The only thing I can think of is basically a tablet that ties back to your PC for the display. Basically, a tablet that is nothing but the screen, digitizer, and controller panel, tied to a USB+DVI or something, that goes back to your PC and gets the signal.
The only thing I've seen similar to this idea is a high end tablet, 1k-2k.

Also, logitech put out a touchpad that is being advertized as "Full Win8 Touch compatible" but I'm assuming that's just referring to multi touch items, like pinch to zoom and such.

Anyone have any ideas on this?
 
I've been looking into this as well, and, from what I can tell, some of the monitors made by this company:

will fit the bill...
I just need to convince the wife that I need a $300 10" monitor...

I know that there does exist software that will let you use a standard tablet as an auxiliary display for your PC, but I have no idea how well that will support Win 8...

These... are kinda awesome. I can't tell if they're hiding the wire or if its wireless to its docking station or what though. :/

This would work awesome if it only had a higher resolution on the device. 1024x600 is fairly low. They're only using USB 2.0 though. Granted my motherboard doesn't even support 3.0, but if they switched up to 3.0, they could start using 1080p 7" panels. If I only knew how windows 8 w/ metro worked with multiple displays, I might even look into their $200 7" panel.

As for using a tablet as an auxilary device, normally those just work through mouse emulation, iirc. Which means you'd get none of the touch features.
 
Well, I can tell you that Windows 8 works wonderfully with multiple monitors...

I have three main screens for the shiny surround gaming, with a fourth auxiliary screen mounted above them. The auxiliary screen is primarily used for Netflix or some such, as it is in a position easily viewable by both my wife and I.
I can open the start menu on any screen, and any "Metro" apps started from there will pop up on that screen by default.
Apps are easily moved between screens...

Though, to be honest, I don't remember what exactly happens if I have a Metro app open on one screen, and try to open the start screen on a different display...

I believe the app moves with the start screen
 
That was how I was recalling it, but, since I was very uncertain, I didn't want to say it as fact...
