hey guys,

I'm new to the forum, so hi. i got a pretty n00b question for ya tho. Responses appreciated. I got a EVGA GeFroce 7150/630i MOBO with a Intel Q6600 cpu. If I buy ATI video card, will it work just as fine as an nVidia one (IOW, is it compatible?), since I'm running a nVidia based MOBO and Intel cpu?

One more thing, I read somewhere that when upgrading my vid card i should disable my on-board GeForce 7150 first under the display settings in Vista. Is this really nessecary?
I geuss this might free up some of my RAM since some of it is being dedicated to the 7150, right?

Thanks!

as long as the ati video card is pci express, it will work. you will have to remove the nvidia display drivers though and install ati drivers, and the integrated gpu should automatically disable itself when a new card is present, and the ram dedicated to it will be freed.

cool thanks. any idea how to remove the display drivers without removing my MOBO drivers at the same time? I only see NVIDIA DRIVERS under the programs and features menu in Vista. Would i still have to remove them if I wanted to put in an nVidia card?

You could always click uninstall nvidia drivers and see if it gives you the option to remove just the display drivers.
