Interesting problem with my friend's computer... all of his games (WoW, F.E.A.R., etc.) work fine with the exception of Counterstrike: Source. Half-Life 2 works fine though. Used to have a problem with HL2, but uninstalling Big Brot-- er, Norton Systemworks fixed that.

Anyways, the game works fine for about ten to fifteen minutes, then a complete system freeze occurs. Cursor still moves, but game and desktop are frozen, un-ALTTABable, etc. Three-finger salute does not work, nor does any other form of user input. Only a hard shutdown "fixes" the problem. This happens in both full screen and windowed mode. I'm suspecting the video card, as there's an interesting problem: the Cayalist Control Center will not open. It's installed, but when the shortcuts are clicked, the program does not open. Even directly running the program doesn't work. Seems unrelated, but you never know...

Anyone have any ideas? The full Valve pack was my Xmas gift to him, and I'd really like to solve this so he can play CS:S too...

edit: Same problem happens with the older Catalyst drivers and the 7.1 drivers just released.
