Total available memory ?

Well I have 2 ATI Radeon HD3870 in Crossfire and to my very knowledge
they are 512mb each but everywhere I look in my computer setting or in my catalyst
it says I have 2303 MB Total available graphic memory.... where does this number come from ?

My 8800gts sli control panel says I have 2303mb of graphics memory also. Says 1791 MB is shared.

No matter what they say:
HD3870 crossfire has 512MB (practically) usable vram. RV670 doesn't support "hyper memory" which could allow that kind of numbers (would use system ram). Same thing goes with G92 8800 GTS SLI.. 512MB usable vram and it doesn't support turbo cache (same as AMD's hyper memory)
