Hello, my Tecra has 256MB and am wondering if i can buy a 1GB laptop memory stick to pair with the 256MB. But I dont know how to open up the laptop, i tried reading the manual but doesn't mention anything about opening up the laptop.

You will need to be more specific about what model laptop you own.

Tecra is an entire line of laptops from Toshiba. Some older, some newer.

do you think any brand of that spec memory would be ok ? or should it only get the same brand?

I think that you can in general mix brands. Just so long as both brands are decent quality. Any brand worth buying will offer a lifetime warranty. I've had 2 laptops in which I upgraded with a different brand of memory that had the same basic specs and had no problems. A good place to look for different brands of laptop memory is www.newegg.com cause alot of people shop there and just about every brand they offer has a fair amount of user reviews that will help you decide which brand to get.

Newegg also has some one day sales that are pretty good. I got my 1 Gig of Kingmax memory for about 125$ including shipping and handling.
