I am currently looking at possibly doing a trade or buying a Toshiba tdp mt200 projector from a friend and I was wondering how much it is worth? I am also wondering is it good enough to game on/watch movies/day to day use? I figure I should find this stuff out and see whether I should go with this older model or just spend the extra cash for a new one. I also was wondering if there is a way to see how much wear and tear is on the bulb since from what I can tell they are very expensive.
Thanks for the replies in advance.:)

something like that would go for anywhere between $150-350(US) on ebay, depending on the lamp. then again, i find ebay prices for used projectors a bit high(10 year old projectors with no bulb and un-tested selling for $100).

i recently bought a used infocus screenplay 4805(almost exact same specs as that one), with a 92" screen and 35ft hdmi-dvi cable for $250(cdn). it has 1000hrs used out of 4000. so far, im very impressed with it. for movies(hd, dvd or divx) and satellite it looks great. i havent tried any games so far, but im sure they would look good too. i find it looks best if i close the curtains, or watch at night.

the price i payed i believe is on the low end, but it gives you an idea. be sure to find out how many hours it has though. you can usually find it in the menu somewhere. replacement bulbs usually run about $300-400.

I wrote the bit below before realising the projector is only 480p!! (not 720p as written)
As you may find what I wrote useful, I havent deleted it :)

480p is 640x480 res and is nowhere near enough for every day Windows use as that is the same res as your old TV.
It is too low res to have any worth for modern movies, especially Blu Ray.

I dont recommend using a projector for everyday stuff unless you can afford to replace the bulb once or twice a year.
5.5hrs per day equals 1 bulb per year for that projector.
This can be a real breaking point and is the reason I built my own projector that uses very high quality but very cheap bulbs that last between 3 and 10 times longer!
In case you are interested, the bulbs I used last 6000hrs and cost around £18 to £30.

A friend of mine bought a projector fully knowing how much the bulb cost was.
He didnt put anything aside for the bulb though and when the time came for a new one, he sold the projector as he couldnt afford it.

It is a very bright projector so it will be fine for Windows use, even if the room isnt darkened.
The breaking point is the resolution though as it is only 720p (1280x720) or there abouts.
This isnt anywhere near enough for me, you may be fine with it though.

You wont see the full detail in Blu Ray movies but it will still look great.
A while ago I ran my PC for over a year on a 120" screen.
Even with a 1080p 42" Plasma TV, I cant get near the feeling of immersion I got from 1024x768 at 120" !
When it comes to that size screen, nothing comes close unless its also massive.

Something worth considering...
Make sure you have the room to sit far enough away from the screen.
At 120", 1024 res I found 4 metres away to be most comfortable.
At higher res you will want to be a little closer so maybe 3 metres +.
Too close and you have to move your eyes/head too much which causes fatigue.

I want to thank you guys a lot for the info as I have never owned a projector and just used the a little bit at school when I tutored. I ended up talking him down on it and got it for 75 bucks with a bulb that has 350 hours of use on it. He bought a way newer fancier one so this older one was just going to rot anyway in his closet. I know I got a decent deal now thanks.
