i have a question about torrents. i am using bitcomet as a torrent client. is it normal for the internet to be slower when downloading a torrent

torrent programs will suck up as much of your bandwidth as it can....dont use that program, but im sure in its options you can set the limit for the bandwidth it uses

yes, bittorrent clients will try to make a large number or connections too, this can bring some commercial wireless routers to there knees if many torrents are on the go at the same time.

connections and bandwidth will probably be able to be limited in the options menu (note this may affect torrent download speed) if the options are not available then i suggest a more configurable client.
http://www.utorrent.com/ <-- that client definatly has options to limit connections and bandwidth.

ya i have another computer that uses utorrent but even though the bandwith is limited the internet is still a bit slower. is azureus better

The clients won't make a big difference, limit the amount of connections, enable UPnP in your router if you have it.

I like utorrent, its simple and lighweight.

Yeah, the bandwidth hurts, but more than that the # of connections, as others have said.

Azureus will make your problem worse. Use uTorrent and set the connection and upload limits lower then it won't eat too much into your bandwidth. A properly configured torrent programme will even allow you to game and torrent at the same time.

You mean like Azureus at it's default settings? I've tried BitComet and Utorrent on several machines, and both of them bog down the computer and the connection when running. Azueus is far better, and I leave it running when playing a game with no issues. I was just playing Need For Speed Carbon this afternoon while downloading two Linux isos as torrents.
