I know most the difference between them from reading the post past month or so..the only concern I have is scaler...i will be using the monitor at 2560x1440 and probably use ctrl & + to zoom in the text size as the text would be too small to read at such resolution... sometimes i watch blu ray movies..but that's about it. I tried to look up already..but exactly what i will be missing without scaler? could anyone gives some examples on scaler issue? thanks

i would use either one, if i could afford them. stuck with an acer 24inch for the last 10 years. but looking to upgrade after the first of the year. let me know how it goes.

choose zr27

Lower input lag and less heat!

If you're going to use it with a PC, the scaler is mostly irrelevant, since your graphics card can do a better job at rescaling when necessary. Though there have been some reports of specific Motheboards and BIOSes having issues with displaying the post and BIOS/EFI screens on high resolution displays without scalers.

It's mostly useful if you want to use it with a device which cannot support it's native resolution, like a game console or blu-ray player.

I think though, that the ZR2740w actually does have a rudimentary scalar. I just did a little testing. In CCC "Enable GPU Scaling" was unchecked, yet here I am displaying 1920x1200 on this ZR2740w. It has black borders on the sides. And it's lacking a lot of pixels, at full res 13 programs fit on each row of the task bar, and at this res only 9 fit.

Tried 1920x1080, no black bars, still only 9 programs per task bar row.

1280x720, no black bars, down to 6 programs per task bar row.

1600x1200, black bars back on the sides, 7 programs per task bar row.

So assuming CCC isn't lying, [strike=]this display does have an aspect ratio preserving scalar, and should work with consoles, blu-ray players, and the like.[/s]

But the ZR2740w definitely does not have an OSD, which means it cannot provide any color controls in the display itself. I'm pretty sure the U2711 does have an OSD with color controls and such.

I just received my second ZR2740w. I tested it out by hooking it up to an AV receiver, using a monoprice HDMI->DVI cable. It can display 720p sources, both a digital cable box and PS/3 displayed properly on it when outputting 720p. But 1080i and 1080p sources, results in nothing being displayed on the ZR2740w. Assuming CCC wasn't entirely lying about having GPU scaling disabled, I'm guessing it might have something to do with DL vs SL DVI cables. HDMI, and by extension DVI->HDMI is always SL(single link).

yea, i will use it with ps3 as well.. so scaler isnt much of an issue..now it comes down to colors... from what i have been reading, dell has better and warmer color..i guess i will wait for a bit since 2711 isnt on sell right now and see more 2740w reviews from here.

FYI i can't get my xbox to output to my zr2740. be aware that your ps3 may not be compatible with a zr2740. a u2711 should work fine, however.

personally, i've chanced across a reasonably priced u2711 and will end up having one of each. if you can wait a week or so i can give you my side-by-side comparison opinion..

U2711 goes on 25% off sale every few months. Maybe they will have an Xmas sale.

i bought the HP last night...even i kinda perferred the dell.. hp was only 685 on amazon and i use amazon often. the dell on amazon is only sold by reseller which i dont trust. Should get the monnotor by Wednesday and i will post some reviews
