Top Newegg banner - causing CPU Spikes

I love Newegg + I know they spend a lot of money for the banner spot, but the friggin animated banner HAS to go. With every page load on the forum, I have a 5-10 second lag + spike in CPU activity causing me to be able to do NOTHING in internet explorer.

This PC isn't great, but its a 2.66gig celeron with a gig of ram shouldn't get bogged down on a page load... Are other people expiriancing this?

PLEASE use a more generic banner!
 
Ditto. Firefox 2.0 on various machines ranging from Celeron to Opteron -- the browser essentially stalls out for 3 to 4 seconds, inhibiting any kind of usage.

Surely Newegg has an animated GIF variant...
 
I don't think I get that... laptop 1.6ghz core duo. 2gigs ram though.
 
It occurs when I use IE with flash installed. It does not occur when I use firefox with flash installed. It think it's the bottom banner ad, not the top. Top always loads quick. Kyle already mentioned that the bottom banner ad is not that large. But I think it might actually be caused by the server hosting the images. If you click on the bottom banner ad it is slow to load.
 
Same problem here. A pause of 3-4 seconds every time the page loads. I've updated flash player, and even gone in and disabled it in IE settings so I get a gif now, same result.
It's driving me crazy. I just really noticed it around a week ago, FWIW.

I was just about to use the nuclear option when I saw this thread.
 
I don't experience what you are describing.

Maybe it's a phishing filter thing, weren't there problems with that before?
 
I keep that phishing filter off at all times. Not running an antivirus either, nor any sort of software firewall. Dunno what is going on, but I wish it would stop.
 
I'm getting this too. Likely the top+bottom banners causing initial spikes... or maybe just the bottom flash one... annoying.

Actually I'm positive it's the flash banner, like someone said.
 
I occasionally see this if I open up 10+ tabs at once.

It's happening to me with only 9 tabs open :p

No seriously, I'm only running one instance of IE7, with one tab, still get the lag on the following system:

C2D @2.13
8800GTS @ stock
IE7 fully patched
WinXP SP2 fully patched
Comcast 16meg/2meg connection
No PITA web monitoring antivirus/software firewall/windows firewall/phishing filter or other unnecessary "man in the middle" software.
Persists even with latest flash player from Adobe website. (currently uninstalled)

Maybe everyone who notices this can post system specs?
