Why not go Intel 730 and a big 3tb drive and call it a day? Also why not go the 4790k it's clocked at 4ghz at stock that's hella fast.

It's not that good. Even if your goal was for a fast $5000 gaming system, that setup is just plain bad. Especially the storage, RAM, and motherboard. Actually the HSF, case, and OS are also poor choices as well. The only really solid choices would be those GTX 980 cards.

If the system is going to be over $2000, there is no good reason NOT to get a X99 based setup. Though yes, gigatexal is correct that even if you were aiming for a Z97 setup, the Core i7 4770K is a poor choice considering that the faster Core i7 4790K is $10 more.

To clarify why I don't understand the choices for storage:

1. Is the builder aware that RAID 0 has no performance benefit for SSDs, and will actually increase latency and boot times?
2. The SSDs seem to be from two years ago and are very expensive at $1500 for the four of them. You could get four Samsung 850 Pro 512GB SSDs for $1200, but why would you when you can get two Samsung 850 Pro 1TB SSDs for $1100?
3. I don't know what the intended use is for the three 2TB HDDs so recommendations there are more difficult, but I don't know why the builder would go that way when you can get a single HGST 7200RPM 6TB drive for $289.

OK, It is time I revealed the secret and I hope it does not get me banned for life :D

I was bored last night so I decided to price out a system of a famous user. That is the rig in the sig of our Dear Leader Kyle ;)

Never heard that before:
http://www.pcworld.com/article/2365767/feed-your-greed-for-speed-by-installing-ssds-in-raid-0.html

I ran 2 x Crucial 512MB M4s in Raid 0 as my boot drive in my previous system. They definitely benched faster than running them as single drives. Now, did Window 8 boot slower with them in Raid0 vs Raid 1, that I did not personally test.

But I cant find any website that shows Raid 0 SSDs running slower than single drives.

I'm sorry, I misremembered. Yes, it doubles read and write speeds - which only helps if you have a source or destination that can also read or write that fast. Latency of SSDs are so much lower than HDDs that the SSDs in RAID 0 will still have much lower latency than any HDD setup, but the RAID controller does introduce a bit of latency. The boot time will be slower because the RAID controller will usually allow time, something like 10 seconds, for drive detection.

Ultimately, what you're really doing is trading off combined capacity for increased risk of data loss - if one of the SSDs in RAID 0 fails, all of your data goes bye-bye.

ok, i agree that boot time will be slower.

In any Raid setup I have used, the mobo BIOS must post an additional screen to show/configure the raid. That does make boot longer. Good point

Definitely go X99 if you are going to throw that kind of money out.
