Hi,

Is it a bad idea to build a new computer with a chipset that has just been released as far as reliability, stability, compatibility, or any other issues? Or doesn't it matter much? And if it matters, what would be an approximate timeline to wait - is it weeks or months?

I'm ready to build a new machine, and the Intel Z97 chipset and boards have the features I want with with full PWM control in the bios of Asus boards that the Z87 does not, but the chipset has just come out. Is there a general rule about whether to buy new chipset releases? Or how long to wait?

Of course I'm responsible for this decision but thought that Hardforum members with more experience than me might have some insight.

Thanks!

Since Z97 is only a minor update to Z87, I wouldn't expect any issues.

I would say that the real reason to wait is to see some reviews on how the new Devil's Canyon K series unlocked CPUs turn out. Since they won't be out until next month, you should at least hold out until then. Assuming the price is reasonable they might turn out to be the next overclocking champs.
