too raid or not to raid

hey all im building a new system and its been a while for me. im considering what kind of disk setup i should go for. i was thinking 3 drives in raid 5 but im not so sure if it would be worth it performance or cost wise and debating if just a mirrored setup with two say 250 gig drives is better or what. the computer is gonna be used for a lot of gaming what do you all recommend. what do you think of the other raid options that are normally available with nf4 boards.
 
if ur gunna spend that much just buy a decent, big and cheap hdd for now and wait for the new raptor
 
If you want to have peace of mind that you won't lose your data RAID 5 is the way to go. If you're willing to lose everything but want more space go with striping.

I personally use RAID in all my machines and have since 1999. Since then I haven't lost any data whatsoever and have never needed to restore my system, but I have had a few drives fail. Ah, the beauty of RAID 5 and Seagates 5 year warranty.
 
Depends, how much space do you THINK you need?

Say you need 160GB. I'd recommend:

160GB OS drive, apps, what not...
3x 80GB in RAID5, for backups, storage, what not...

expensive, but if you want peace of mind, just my 2 cents
