I got a athlon64 3000 venice and overclocked it from 1.8 to 2.6 on a zalman CNPS7000B-AlCu fan and the BFG motherboard. It runs at 50-51 C at full load and 39-40 on idle. Is that too hot? I think its at 1.6v and so is the chipset. the ambient temp is at 34. Is that good? And how muchg slowed is it than a fx-55?

Edit: the idle has gone down to 35. originally it was 30 at idle and 39 at full load.
 
ya all those temps are subject too alot of change b/c ambient temps. umm 50c sounds ok to mme , though lower is always better. if its stable then who cares what temp. i believe the fx-55 runs the same speed as yours right now, congrats. is it stable? may as well take it higher tell u find its max.
 
That temps sounds just fine to me, especially given how much you've managed to OC it.
 
yea perfectly stable and i built this custom case out of a tape player and all the drives are mounted on the bottom so the intesnals temps are really good since theres not cd or hard drive. I'll post it in the case mods section tommorow. and is 1.6v chipset voltage ok? imam run prime tonight, i still havn't done it for more than an hour, but games neveer crash.
 
I can't comment on the chipset voltage, but make sure that you run your machine through a couple memtest86 cycles, and prime for at least 12-16 hours. That way you'll be know whether or not you have a genuinely stable OC.
 
meh..... 2.6 was rock stable but i didnt like the 50C temps so I settled at 2.43 at 1.5v, which gives me a 42C at full load. 5fps aint worth years of a cpu life, especially when its already super fast. look for my case in case mod section by end of day, u might like it.
 
These chips can handle in excess of 70C before crapping out. So, 50s temperatures are fine. Heck when I was using the AMD thunderbirds and athlons, these were pretty good temperatures. I now have a prescott and those have been known to run in the 60s at idle. People say that one caveat about higher temperatures is that your CPU will have a shorter lifespan. Fortunately, if you think about it, you probably will get bored with the chip and find it obsolete in 3 years anyways (if that). Chances are, you will replace the chip before that chip dies (at a shorter lifespan). I have been overclocking since the early 90s and despite what everyone says about higher temperature and shorter cpu lifespan, I have been replacing cpus way before anyone of them died (an athlon, 2 xps, and a p4 can attest to that as they are collecting dust around the house).
 
I know temps dont kill but voltage does. To run at 2.6 i needed 1.65 volts, thats pretty high andlowers life span by quiet a bit, and I would like to keep the comp as a secondary 2-3 years down the road. I heard at such high voltage life goes down to about 1.5-2 years. this true? I think im pretty happy with 2.4 at 1.5v and the temps are great. oh, and here is my awsome case

Since you are working is such a small case and are concerned about temps why don't you go and get a Watercool system for the Processor.
200 bucks and you would be looking at temps in the 30-40 c range instead of the 50's. Then you can up it back to 1.65v and not worry about the life of it.
