Tone Generator

I have a Fox 2 tone generator. It won't identify cables that are plugged into the switch. We had a cabling company come in and redo one of our closets, and they were able to connect it to a different pair to tone it out? I'm thinking they connected it directly to the brown and orange, anyone have any tricks for toning out on a live network that doesn't require purchasing a new toner.

dont they make a little thing that you can buy at home depot that has a Rj45 on one end, and the other end it's a "Y" cable that basically has like all 8 pins separated, so you can attach alligator clips to the pins/wires you want and tone it out that way?

Yeah which pair would i use the switch is poe.

If you're having issues toning it out try putting one end on the wire you want to tone out and one in the ground of an electrical outlet. I don't think I've ever run into this issue before with my cheap Ideal toner.

POE switches don't apply power to the ports unless the switch detects a POE device on the remote end... So you'd just use whichever pair (or random wires) you like...
