Well I broke down and did it.

The study was getting a bit warm. The two OC-ed Q6600's I think where the tipping point.

So now the three minions are on a shelf in the basement with their own switch.

I'm not calling this overly creative, but has anyone else resorted to interesting tactics to keep their boxen from baking?

I believe KillerMob has you beat. He has no basement so he built a little house under his house to house something like 6 machines.

It was beyond cool although I don’t have the pictures any more and they are long lost in the forum archives.;)

Now that's [H]ardcore.

Ok, this is from 2003. This is a box I built and put under my house in the crawl space. It had it's own fan mounted in one end and a filter on the other. It had 3 UPSs, a hub, a webcam and a digital temperature and humidity sensor and a light. I used the webcam to view the temp and humidity inside the box. As you can see, "D" has been around a long time. ;)

HAhaha, thats one of those things that if you explained it to people they probably wouldn't understand.

+1 on the [H]ard

Oh wow. I do have a long way to go before I can consider myself [H]ard too.

"In the early days, 'D' stood for Dog house heat"

damn...I am not funny...

Holy bullpoop Killer[MoB], the pictures of you're "under the house" folding shed are un-freaking-believable.

That's what I call some very creative intelligent problem solving.

Way to Fold :D

Who was it could say nobody would understand it (probably non folders) , myself and many other folders understand it. Those are the kinds of accomplishments that many folders look forward to.

Great way to D :D

Mine is very simple, the hottest computers is all in the basement so it stay cool even during summer (never broke 26C in the hottest day).

i live in miami, those computers would last a week lol

90% humidity FTL :(

Haha yeah humidity is a biatch. It doesn't treat pc's very well at all. And you probably can't find a worse place in the US to have a box like than in miami.

Funny thing is, while flecom is dealing with too much humidity, I have to fill the humidifer about every day or the wife gets pissy about all the static electricity from the heat running all the time.

I live in middle Georgia. We sell our extra humidity to states that are less fortunate. ;)

Right now, it's 75% humidity and only 50 degrees.

Whole house humidifier with a supply line from the hot water heater FTW. I keep my house around 30-33% so I don't have to worry about mold or mildew growing in the ducts. Don't want to overdue it.

I would have liked to have done it that way but I didn't want to spend the money on it and I don't have the tools right now to install it anyway since we just got married recently. I probably have the tools for it now since that's all i got for xmas, but the humidifier was purchased back in nov. Oh well.

I remember that LPerry, aka TheWeatherMan and creator of Electron Microscope, modified his closet in his office to house some of his folding boxen. IIRC, he put in some duct work that allowed the heat to blow directly to the attic during the summer and directly into the house's heating system in the winter.

I can't afford a glass slipper. Therapy is expensive.

Not sure if I still have pic's of my old (circa 2002) basement farm with the original Papa John's pizza box machines. But those dozen or so machines on a custom boxen-shelf paled in comparison to Gaiden at the time.

He had converted his back porch into a folding room complete with chicken wire around the boxen shelves to prevent kids from messing with them.

IIRC he had built his own giant UPS under the floor with a hand build rectifyer circuit and deep cycle marine batteries.

But the real [H]ardness was that he had to move his Harley outside to make room for his farm.

Killer's folding crawlspace is a good example of how crazy it used to get in here....it looks like we're heading back in that direction. :D

It's only "crazy" if nobody else is doing anything at that level. I prefer to think of it as folding bringing out the best in our creativity. And it's not just us, there's extreme folding everywhere.

Why not do something like the "strongest men" contests, by showing how creative you can do to outfold everyone with a set budget ???

That's freaking nuts and brave. That bike wouldn't last long outside over here.

That's a good thing. :D

Bring on the crazy!

Where you been?
The crazy's been here for 7 years. :D

We're just revisiting it.

The Continued Return of the Son of [H]crazy Strikes Back, Part II, The Sequel

Now all you biatches, shaddup and fold. :D :D
