Im putting together a new build on an Asus P8Z68 PRO, 2600K, etc, etc.
I am going to be picking up an EVGA GTX 580. There is the regular card or the superclocked card.....and right now the 2 are pretty much the same price(0.50 different)
Plan on going with a HafX case or a HAF 912 advanced if I can get my hands on one.

To me it prob makes sense to get the superclock even tho it isnt that much higher rated..... but I was just wondering if anyone had any input of sorts on either or......

I plan to keep the system for 3 years........I wont be doing any overclocking of sorts and use it for everyday stuff, medium use gaming, and some minor menu making programs.

Is there any major diff in heat output or voltage or life expectancy with the factory OC cards ??

Thanks

No, not at the miniscule levels that that card is overclocked. You won't be able to tell a difference in gameplay, and probably not thermals either. It's free, so you might as well get it. I'm not sure if eVGA bins chips according to how well they clock but if they do, you'll get to OC higher. The point is moot though, since you won't being OCing.

Get the super OC since it's only 50c more. Factory OC cards run a little hotter usualy but not much hotter to make it a make/break buying decision over. Also since you wont be putting that much stress on the card it is irrelevant. Free performance or in this case 50c for a bit more performance doesn't hurt.

BTW how much are the cards and where are you buying them from? Are you sure they are the best deal. There are ALOT of good GTX 580s available.

I agree with Exodia - normally just get the regular card and overclock it yourself, but if there is no cost difference might as well get the Superclocked one. Plus, it might have a better warranty.

Even at the same price I'd normally take the stock clocked card.

Why? It's not like the Superclock card is worse. Even if you can overclock the base card higher, it's not like you couldn't also overclock the Superclock card (plus you have a guarantee that it'll overclock at least a little). Plus, it might buy you as few extra bucks on resale.

And my mistake, its listed at $0.50 cheaper........

What other card manufact are recommended for the 580 GTX or versions of in that price range give or take $20-$40

Either of these 2 are fabulous cards and they have exceptional coolers

I actually stumbled acros the Asus Matrix today, looks like a beast of a card and for not that much more money. Also comes clocked higher and looks like it has room to go.

How are Asus known for their graphics cards and warranty, etc. i did notice there is only a 3 year warranty on their cards. Fits about my timeline anywayz.

The Asus Matrix is my wet dream for a 1.5GB GTX 580. AMAAAAAAAZING card!!

Check out Hadocp's review

There is a matrix and a matrix platinum BTW. Both have great options though the platinum is the better of the two.

As for Asus they handle things well if you call them, from what I've seen and read their online rma request is useless and may as well not exist. If you call they turn around a card within a week so total time around 2 weeks or less. This is about typical for a company.

The 3 year warranty is ample in my opinion as most people don't own a card that long, lifetime warranty only comes in handy for resale value or if your one of those run it til the wheels fall off type.

See to me the Matrix is just any old GTX580 with an annoyingly large cooler on it... :s
