Here's my situation, I'm putting together a new gaming rig and I'm stuck on what video card setup would work best for my needs.
Currently I'm running PII-720BE unlocked 4th core at 3.1Ghz (stock voltage), a Nvidia 460GTX 1GB and I currently game at 1920x1200. I would possibly bump up the display to 2560x1600 with a new monitor in the future but I have no intention of going multiple displays for gaming. Also, I have no preference towards Nvidia or ATI. The main goal of the build is to enable me to run Empire, Napoleon, and Shogun 2 Total War with the largest unit sizes at max resolution with all/most options on their highest settings. These titles currently give me problems running at max resolution, unit size, and graphics options with my 460GTX.
So far I have acquired a SeaSonic X750 PSU, Raven RV02B-EW case, 16GB 1.5v DDR3-1600. (Other build components that have not been ordered are a 120GB SSD, 1 5400rpm 2TB storage drive, and an Intel Core i7 Sandy Bridge processor). Aside from what extra performance I can get out of the equipment at stock voltages I don't plan to overclock. I would like to keep this build under 750w.
I'm considering Crossfire 2GB 6950s but don't know if that is overkill for what I am trying to accomplish. What would you guys recommend?
