i have an older q6600 system and I would like to add a raid 5 array to it.
I have a dilemma though. I only have one PCI slot available.

So should i get a PCI Raid controller with my sata2 drives or just get another motherboard and get a PCI-E Raid controller.

I don't know whether getting another motherboard is worth it though...
I've looked into external raid solutions also, may have to go that route.

What do ya'll think?

I would highly recommend that you don't get a PCI raid card, for speed and future-proofing reasons.

IIRC, PCI is limited to 133 MB/s, so your array would be capped at SATA I speeds. If your card runs at 66MHz and your board can support it, it will run at 266 MB/s and be capped at SATA II speeds. If you can live with that, PCI is fine. If you can't though, you would need a PCI-e card to remove the bottleneck.
