I already have a 290X. I am getting a 1440p monitor. I want to get at least 120FPS, as I got the overclock edition monitor and I will be running it at 120Hz-160Hz. One 290X isn't going to be enough. Should I sell the 290X and get a 980 or get another 290X?

Selling your 290x for a 980 would net you about 0-10 extra frames, and 120w of saved power. You won't achieve your goal with doing that, easiest solution is to get another 290x. Otherwise, you could get two 970s. I think that would be the most cost effective.

I vote for 2 970s!!! That would be a big jump, total investment with out tax $750 minus the sale of your 290x.

I'd go with a used 290x for cheap if you can find one for around $200 - $250. If you want new then the 970 SLI option is tempting.

To achieve those kind of frames at 1440p I would say sell the 290x and get at least 2 gtx 980's.

3DMark Fire Strike
980 SLI = 19,050
980 = 11,504

3DMark Fire Strike Extreme
980 SLI = 10,211
980 = 5,719

Thief
980 SLI = 98.6FPS
980 = 55.6FPS

BioShock Infinite
980 SLI = 127FPS
980 = 80FPS

If you are playing more demanding games you will likely need tri sli to maintain those kind of frames.
Also if you read through the thread Jacob w/ EVGA mentioned a classified version coming mid/late Oct.
